In this episode, we speak with Alex Maki-Jokela. Maki is an engineer-turned-artist and entrepreneur. His work includes Burning Man art installations, arctic vaults designed to preserve open-source code for millennia, and an AI-driven fashion company. He is currently the COO of GreenCubes, a startup building automated infrastructure for urban food production.

We’ll dive into topics including integrating AI into design workflows, mindfully navigating the emotional challenges of entrepreneurship, and positive ways to push yourself to execute on intentions.

He helped Disney reboot educational gaming, founded AltspaceVR to solve socializing at a distance (acquired by Microsoft), and was recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30 for VR D&D. He is currently developing 3D-printed human tissues at Prellis Biologics and hosting the ReRoute.fm podcast.

Nick Thurston

Nick Thurston is an actor, writer, and creative producer, committed to leveraging the power of story to expand our consciousness and generate solutions to our problems.

He co-founded the New Guard Theater Company in Los Angeles in the interest of creating an incubational space for cutting edge theater, and from 2016-18 he produced over forty pieces of original work while serving as its co-artistic director. He has appeared in numerous films and series, including Grimm, Snowfall, American Dad, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. As a writer, he has a video game in development and is at work on a series of epic fantasy novels.

He is the producer of the ReRoute podcast.

Jenna McClellan

Jenna is an audio engineer based in Los Angeles, CA.

Darren Wong

Darren Wong is a creative director and designer specializing in UI/UX. He has worked with some of the most influential companies in the creative field, including SONY, Disney, and Interscope, and is also an instructor of product design at the Art Center College of Design.

David Schuler

David Schuler is a two-time Grammy Award nominated, multi-platinum worldwide selling record producer, songwriter, film composer and filmmaker from Rochester, NY. He has produced records and written songs with artists such as P!nk, John Legend, Daughtry, Backstreet Boys, The Saturdays, Scott Stapp, Ricki-Lee Coulter, Esmee Denters, Lauren Bennett, Teddy Geiger, Shy Carter, Aimee Proal, and others. He is the sole member of The Bad Dreamers, his personal music project.
